DEMENTIA AWARE AND FRIENDLY PRACTICE
We are a Dementia Friendly Practice and follow steps to ensure patients with Dementia are well looked after.
1. Staff training and awareness
Our practice is committed to ensuring all staff understand dementia and how it may affect patients and their families.
- Team members receive regular dementia awareness training.
- Staff are trained to communicate clearly, patiently and respectfully.
- We aim to recognise when patients may need extra support or time during appointments.
This helps us provide a calmer, more understanding environment for everyone.
2. Creating a supportive and accessible environment
We are working to make our practice easier to use for people living with dementia.
- Clear signage and simple directions within the building.
- Quiet waiting areas where possible to reduce anxiety or confusion.
- Flexible appointment arrangements, including allowing carers or family members to attend.
These changes aim to make visits less stressful and more comfortable.
3. Working in partnership with patients, carers and community services
We support patients and carers beyond medical care.
- We involve carers or family members in care planning where appropriate.
- We can signpost patients to local dementia support services and resources.
- We aim to offer continuity of care with familiar clinicians where possible.
Our goal is to help patients live well with dementia and feel supported by their GP practice.
